Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
PBIS is a state mandated decision-making framework that helps us create more positive environments for Monticello's students and staff. We have established clear expectations for all students and actively teach, model, and reinforce appropriate behaviors school-wide. Data is logged, and Monticello has experienced improved academic and behavioral outcomes in students. PBIS is an ever-present part of the school environment: in the classroom, the school building, during extracurricular activities, on the school buses and on school grounds. Our lesson designs are data-driven and everyone is involved in PBIS: all kids, teachers, support staff, administration, bus drivers and families!
There are weekly lessons and there are monthly lessons including videos made by Monticello students. We reward good behavior with Pony Promise slips. These slips are treated as currency enabling students to be visited by a monthly prize patrol, enjoy game days with Middle and High School students helping in Elementary, and even have a movie afternoon with popcorn. Our monthly award winners also receive "Pizza with the Principal".
