District Development Coordinator Email Dr. Karen Ballin Dr. Ballin served 10 years as District Administrator/Elementary Principal in the Monticello School District. Following her retirement in 2012, she continues to assist the District by writing grants, policy development and special projects. Dr. Ballin completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at UW-Milwaukee and a Masters Degree in School Counseling at UW-Oshkosh. Following several years of professional practice as a teacher and school counselor,she completed her K-12 principal certification at Edgewood College and entered their doctoral program in Educational Leadership soon thereafter.In 2007 she completed her doctoral dissertation that focused on the dynamics of rural school consolidation in Wisconsin. The outcome of her doctoral work supported her firm belief that rural school districts are a valuable part of this state's educational landscape. Monticello is home to Dr. Ballin and her husband, but they use their free time to travel the world logging visits to more than 75 countries. Closer to home, she enjoys growing orchids, gardening and reading about history and politics.
