Way to go, Monticello Elementary! Our students collected over 60 pounds of candy in our annual Post-Halloween candy collection for military troops. Extra congrats goes out to Mrs. Wells' 4th graders for being the class who donated the most candy. Thanks to our local American Legion chapter for covering the cost of shipping candy off to active duty naval troops. Healthier teeth and a kind deed - win! win!

Monticello Present Rural School Services Model at Wisconsin Rural School Conference
Monticello School District was proud to have several of our education leaders present at the 2024 Wisconsin Rural Schools Conference last week. School Counselor Jami Cregan, School Advisor Jesse Wahl, and District Administrator Allen Brokopp led a session on Monticello's innovative model for delivering student support services in a rural district.
Their presentation highlighted how Monticello has adapted its approach to school counseling, mental health resources, and family engagement to better meet the unique needs of our rural community. Some of the key strategies they shared included:
Whole-Student Focus: Prioritizing academic/career prep, mental health, and belonging/community for all students
Tiered Social-Emotional Learning: Providing 3 tiers of SEL and behavioral support programming
Collaborative Support Team: Teachers, counselors, advisors, and administrators working together as proactive student advocates
Maximizing Limited Resources: Leveraging partnerships, virtual services, and empowered teachers to overcome staffing constraints
The session was very well-received by the rural school administrators, teachers, and support staff in attendance, who were impressed by Monticello's comprehensive and adaptable approach to student services within a small district.
Monticello is proud to be recognized as a leader in rural education, and we're excited to continue sharing our best practices with colleagues throughout the state.

🐝Congratulations to our 3rd/4th grade 2024 Spelling Bee winners... Kaleb (2nd place), Lily (1st place) and Kai (3rd place)!

School Boards Hold Joint Board Meeting With Neighboring Districts
On Wednesday, November 6, the Monticello School Board hosted a Joint School Board Meeting with the JAM'BS (Juda, Albany, Monticello, Black Hawk, and Brodhead) School Boards. JAM'Bs is a collaborative group of districts that work together in an effort to provide better services and supports for all members of the group.
Since JAM'BS started in 2009-10, these districts have supported each other through shared staffing, coordinating staff professional development, grant writing, co-op sports, and working together to provide college/transcripted credits for students.
Every year or two, the group gathers at one of the participating districts to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of School Board Members. The November 6th meeting was hosted by Brodhead and featured a presentation by Bob Butler, staff counsel from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.

On Monday, we celebrated the elementary students who were selected as the students who excelled in the skill area of belonging.
During the PBIS assembly, middle school student leaders helped with entry music and a kindness is contagious activity.

On October 30th at 1PM, we will hold a school evacuation drill. First, we'll conduct a lockdown, then law enforcement will assist in releasing students/staff to a reunification center. This drill follows our ongoing school safety training throughout the fall. Local law enforcement and fire department will manage the procedures. We expect the drill to last under an hour. Afterwards, please use it as a teaching moment. Nothing is more important than keeping our students and staff safe, so practicing these procedures is critical. Thank you for your commitment to school safety.
